Uthopia - Following the sale of Carl Hesters top Olympic horse Escapado in 2005 to the sponsors of Hans Peter Minderhoud, Hester embarked on a search for new talent. While horse-shopping in the Netherlands, he discovered the Métall son Uthopia, and after a 15-minute test ride, the deal was done. Several months earlier, the stallion had finished seventh in the Pavo Cup Final under his former registered party, Ivonne Lawrence. Hester carefully continued Uthopia’s training and experienced success with him from the start, winning in both the British young horse tests and the Small Tour. Since their transition to the Grand Prix, the pair has been unbeatable. At age nine, the stallion earned promising scores of more than 75% on the Sunshine Tour, and since then, he has developed into one of the great horses of dressage. At the European Championships in Rotterdam, the duo swept the silver medals in the Special and the Freestyle. In addition, Hester and Uthopia contributed to the UK’s historic gold medal victory. The 2012 Olympic Games should be another highpoint for the combination. In August 2011, the KWPN awarded Uthopia recognized status as a breeding stallion, although the sport is the primary focus for this exceptionally talented dressage horse.
