Penhaligon Stud - Zwartbles
We would like to introduce you to our flock of Zwartbles Accredited sheep.
Our initial intention was to have a few sheep to keep our horse paddocks in good order but once we looked into the various breeds further it was decided to seek out a good quality flock to breed quality animals for breeding and showing. We have been lucky enough to find a lovely flock which are the basis of our breeding programme. See photos.
About Zwartbles
Zwartbles are a friendly breed, easy to keep and great fun to have around. They only have to hear the rattle of a bucket and they come running, making them easier to handle than many breeds. They make perfect paddock cleaners along side horses and are very popular as a smallholders breed. An ideal breed for children to get involved with.
These splendid black sheep were introduced to Britain from Holland in the 1980's.They are a large black sheep with a white blaze. They have up to four white socks and a white tip to their undocked tails.
Zwartble sheep are very maternal and prolific. They are extremely milky and can suckle twins and triplets with ease. Lambs grow at a tremendous rate and have lean meat. The fleeces are good quality, with plenty of crimp and beautiful shading from brown to black.
